Vocal range test
Find your lowest and highest comfortable notes and your likely voice type. Takes about a minute. Your voice stays on your device: nothing is recorded or uploaded.
Step 1 of 2 · lowest note
Hum your lowest comfortable note
Start in the middle and slide down. Hold the last easy note for two seconds.
How the test works
Your browser listens through the microphone and measures pitch about 190 times a second. A note counts when you hold it steadily for two seconds; quick slides and cracks don't count, so the result is a range you can actually use. Above C6 a browser test stops reading reliably, so a top of C6 means “C6 or higher”.
Voice types
These are the typical ranges of trained voices. Your comfortable range today is usually narrower, and it grows with practice.
| Voice type | Typical range |
|---|---|
| Soprano | C4–C6 |
| Mezzo-soprano | A3–A5 |
| Alto | F3–F5 |
| Tenor | C3–C5 |
| Baritone | A2–A4 |
| Bass | E2–E4 |
