Tenor vocal range: C3 to C5
A trained tenor typically sings from C3 to C5, two octaves. Most people who sing for fun use a narrower comfortable range inside that, often around D3 to A4.
How to tell if you're a tenor
Voice type is mostly about where your voice sits comfortably, not the single highest note you can reach. Measure your lowest and highest easy notes; the type whose range has the closest middle is your most likely fit. Neighbouring types overlap a lot: baritone (A2–A4) and alto (F3–F5).
Warm-ups for tenors
- Vocal warm-up for tenors (D3–A4): high notes without straining
- Vocal warm-up for tenors (D3–A4): singing in tune
- Choir warm-up for tenors (D3–A4)
Ranges: typical ranges of trained voices (McKinney, The Diagnosis and Correction of Vocal Faults). Our range test reads E2–C6.
